This page will list opportunities for students to help with the Science and Technology program at UMAHS. If you are looking for a chance to tinker with science projects during your free study halls or lunch, check out these "Help Wanted Ads"! E-mail me at scox@umasd.org to arrange an opportunity to contribute!

  • Keyboard Operator: I have an old keyboard that needs to be broken into pieces (in strategic places!) to illustrate how the keys act as electrical switches!
  • Logic Gates: I have some components that would make great AND and OR logic switches. I just need someone to play with the electrical components and change some of them!
  • Wire Testing: We have lots of wires that have alligator clips attached. Or should I say, semi-attached. This job would involve testing the wires for continuity, and possibly learning to solder any bad contacts.
  • Square Wheels: I have collected the parts to make a "Square Wheels" model, and a book with the instructions. Should be fun!
  • Home-made Cassette Tape: With an old cassette tape recorder, we should be able to make a cassette tape with iron filings and scotch tape that will record your voice! YouTube Clip Cartoon Page
  • Gears: I have some old parts from printers and VCRs that would make great lessons in gears as simple machines. You would tinker with these parts to see what could be learned, and possibly take apart whatever gets in the way of the lesson.
  • Molecular Models: I would like to have some permanent models of some common molecules (CO2, H2O, O2, sugar, methane, etc.). Model builders would love this task! Wikipedia Article
  • Rube Goldberg Junk: For the Rube Goldberg project, I have collected a huge pile of usable junk--maybe too much junk! I would love for someone to go through the junk drawers and separate out the useful from the useless, and organize the junk in some logical way!
  • Class of 1993: I have papers and picture from this class that I sponsored with Miss Cortellessa and Mrs. Coakley. Anyone out there from that great graduating class who wants to archive this stuff?

Thanks for considering these tasks! I hope something strikes your fancy, and that you contact me to get involved!
